Have you ever played Patapon? The quirky game is easily one of the best ever made for the PlayStation Portable, and it’s well worth the price of a UMD.
On top of that, Patapon also indulges any Filipino’s sense of patriotism. Many of the game’s words are English, but some are Filipino. To wit:
“Patapon” is Tagalog for “throw.”
The default name of the player character, “Kami”, means “we” in the non-inclusive sense.
Some of the monster names, like “Motiti”, feature Tagalog words. Filipinos know what we’re talking about.
“Chaka”, one of the drum beats the player uses to control the Patapon army, is part of Filipino gay lingo.
“Pata”, another drum beat, means “thigh.”

Take a look at NBA.com’s new NBA Live ‘08 screenshot gallery. The tendency for publishers to spice up ad materials aside, the graphics are the most photorealistic I’ve ever seen. More excuse for video game addicts to avoid real exercise, since they’ll be busy living their hoop dreams through buttons and the D-Pad.
Did your jaw drop because of NBA 2k7’s luscious HD graphics? Let’s see how NBA Live ‘08 will affect virtual ballers.
Yeah, Bioshock has earned some great reviews from the major media outlets prompting a bevy of sales. Now you can download the Bioshock Musical Score and enjoy the eerie music of the game even while not playing the game.
Composer Garry Schyman created the orchestral masterpiece that serenades you through your journey into the heart of Rapture. Today, we are releasing the 12 tracks that create the eerie string compilation in Rapture so that you can take the world of BioShock wherever you go. We have archived these 12 mp3s into a zip file for you for easy download. Grab it and take a listen — and remember the first moment setting eyes upon the sunken city, your first battle with a Splicer, when you first battled a Big Daddy, or the time you decided to save (perhaps harvest?) a Little Sister.
It looks like Bioshock is another classic in the making for developer Irrational games, as major media outlets scoring it in the high 90’s in terms of review percentage scores. It is also a swan song for Irrational in a way since they will be assimilated by 2K Games as the more corporately named 2k Boston and 2k Australia.
The cheapest and most reliable service i found selling Asian Xbox 360s locally are selling it for 15,500Php. It includes the following package:
Xbox 360 Console, 1pc Wireless Controller, 20gb Hard Drive, Headset, Ethernet Connectivity Cable, Component HD AV Cable
Free Xbox Live Silver Membership: Includes one month of Xbox Live Gold, 220v AC.
I think this is good deal as it also comes a 1 year warranty against the dreaded 3RL problem of select 360s. I remember buying my first 360 at 25k a year and a half ago. That was when local shop prices were as high as 40k. Sobrang sulit. The 360 has a lot of games and plays even better when you’re online. The only problem of owning one is you cant actually frag it out with n00bs in Xbox Live while grinding your way through World of Warcraft.. Sigh. Read the rest of this entry »
I’m currently somewhere in Outland. Sandwiched between some Burning Legion ramparts and Hellfire Citadel, i needed a couple of minutes to get used to the controls, my keyboard abilty layout and my new UI courtesy of the latest WoW UI mods available. After a few practice kills (and a couple of quests done), i have mastered the controls again and been zipping across Outland on my flying mount.
It looks like Nintendo of America is soooo busy doing PR’s for Wii Fit and Super Smash Brawl that it has forgotten one of the games that gave hope to the Gamecube (not that it had enough, but thats another story). I talked about how Nintendo moved away from catering to the hardcore gamers, and now IGN itself has posted an editorial on how Nintendo has treated Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.
Here are snippets from IGN’s editorial about how Nintendo has failed to market one of its biggest franchises to the hardcore gamer. Read the rest of this entry »
Local game publishers need to earn somehow from locally published games. The amount of money that goes into development, management, support and marketing these games is really no joke. We currently have two game models: One is Free to Play, where you actually can play the game for free but premium items are bought in an item mall, and Two is via Pay to Play where you actually pay for gametime similar to World of Warcraft’s (and others) subscription based model. Of course you have Guild Wars where you pay for the boxed game but don’t pay anything for gametime and doesn’t have an item mall. While GW’s approach is unique, it’s not the only alternative payment method its publisher NCSoft has devised. Read the rest of this entry »
After all the hoopla surrounding World of Warcraft’s new expansion, i got to talk to one of my friends who plays WoW and Asian made MMO’s. You know what i heard? “I’d rather play World of Warcraft than another Asian MMO”. or something to that effect. And that made me say “I’m actually reactivating my account now, lets gather up some friends and go play WoW!”
I have been quoted as saying that once you have actually played WoW, everything else pales in comparison. That still holds true today. Say what you will about Everquest 2, Lineage 2, City of Heroes and other big name MMOs, nothing compares to World of Warcraft. Yet. Read the rest of this entry »
