I don’t know about you, but I think the 6th issue of the local online gaming magazine, Game! has been significantly “downsized”. The usual 72-page issue is now a measly 48-pager. Gone are the glossy pages. Most significant of all, it appears that “The Best Online Gaming Magazine” is now living true to its name - all non-MMORPG content (with the exception of news) have now been removed.
Such a shame. I was really looking forward to getting more DS and PSP game reviews.
Is this an indication that Game! will suffer the same fate as Summit Media’s Gamesmaster? People at hip Magazines, say it isn’t so. For some of us, printed reviews, news and guides still make sense in this Internet era.

For some of you old folks maybe. All of my gaming news and reviews come from the web these days, and with numerous respectable gaming websites out there (1up, gamespot, IGN) offering multimedia content (articles, podcasts, vidcasts), I don’t see the gaming magazine industry getting better any time soon. Especially since your readership is tech savvy.
I disagree.
It’s true that there are hundreds of gaming mags out there that only get so much readership before they eventually die out. But that’s because of the presence of the ones that have been there since the start of the industry and have managed to get loyal readers. In the case of the Philippines, there is still no gaming mag that is that FIRST significant one, a mag with local content and features/opinions that could apply to the local setting. *THAT* is an opportunity the people at hip are trying to take advantage of; to be that first.
Lastly, yes, of course you can get anything from the net. But there are some of us who, after spending the whole day working hard in front of a monitor, would like a little break on the eyes and read on old-fashioned paper. It’s a matter of choice. Age has nothing to do with it.
I beg to disagree as well.
Gamepro is dead and EGM print is on its last legs. These are the grand daddies of gaming magazines and they’re so hip deep in trouble that they’re practically giving their magazines away, as in the case of EGM where they were giving out free subscriptions.
[…] I don’t wanna argue about gaming mags again, but I’m just curious about this magazine I found at a local Mag.Net plainly-yet-clearly titled, Nintendo Gamer Magazine. It was the first issue and costs something around 400 pesos (pretty much the same as with any imported magazine). […]
